Hermine Deurloo presents her new album Riverbeast with a superband from New York, featuring the legendary drummer Steve Gadd.
‘Recording an album with Steve Gadd was like a dream come true’, says Hermine Deurloo about Riverbeast, a mix of Americana, rhythm-and-blues, pop, jazz and soul, composed with Steve Gadd’s drum style in mind.
Steve Gadd is part of music history from the 1970’s up until the present.
His drumming graced countless albums of major stars, including Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon, Eric Clapton, James Taylor, Rickie Lee Jones, Steely Dan, Chick Corea and Al Jarreau. In the hands of Hermine Deurloo the harmonica becomes a fully fledged jazz instrument. Her virtuosity is recognized internationally; in 2018 she won the de Bernie Bray Harmonica Player of the Year Award, previously won by Toots Thielemans and Stevie Wonder.
Her new album Riverbeast was produced by New York bassist/guitarist Tony Scherr, who has collaborated with Bill Frisell, Snarky Puppy and Norah Jones. Tony will also appear at the BIMHUIS together with guitarist Luca Benedetti and pianist Jon Cowherd, who also plays with star drummer Brian Blade.
